Job Description

  • Provide training to district staff andassist district in the implementation of effective research-basedactivities in order to improve the academic performance andpost-secondary outcomes to ensure all students, but especiallystudents with disabilities, graduate college and careerready
  • Facilitate on and off-site trainings to districts/schools ineffective instructional practices, especially related to studentswith disabilities to improve outcomes for early childhood childrenwith disabilities, positively impact graduation and dropout rates,and effectively transition students from school to post-schoolactivities
  • Provide training, technical assistance and coaching inidentified teaching practices/strategies, which may include:Standards-based IEPs; MAP-A; Co-teaching; DifferentiatedInstruction; Self-determination; Universal Design for Learning;Check and Connect; Dropout Prevention; and, Missouri Post-SecondarySuccess Project, and Desired Results Developmental Profile(DRDP)
  • Work collaboratively as a member of the Regional ProfessionalDevelopment Center (RPDC) to provide training, technical assistanceand coaching to districts/schools that promote best practices toschools and districts to improve student outcomes, which mayinclude: assessment literacy, Data teaming, high impact teachingpractices
  • Attend and actively participate in all DESE required statewidemeetings/trainings relative to the Special Education consultant(Improvement Consultant) contract requirements
  • Represent the South Central Regional Professional DevelopmentCenter and the Missouri University of Science and Technology in apositive and appropriate manner
  • Serve as an ambassador for the Department of Elementary andSecondary Education by promoting and supporting the goals andobjectives of the Department
  • Meet all requirements to provide training as specified inattachment 3 of the consolidated contract for special educationimprovement consultants

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education andexperience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparableknowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree, with a major in Special Education
  • The ability to operate a motor vehicle and to load/unloadpresentation materials up to 50 lbs and to set up technology forpresentations.
  • Minimum of five years as a special education educator;experience as a Special Education Director or Process Coordinatoris preferred
  • Teaching certification and certification in Special Educationarea(s); Special Education Administration certification ispreferred.
  • Experience analyzing standardized assessment data related tostudents with disabilities
  • Knowledge of professional learning communities, positivebehavior supports, assessment for learning, and/or co-teachingstrategies
  • Experience with designing programs for students with multipledisabilities
  • Comprehensive knowledge of:
    • State and federal regulations implementing Part B of IDEA;Missouri Special Education Compliance Standards and Indicators; Thespecial education process and effective systems for implementationof special education procedures; Evaluation/eligibilitydetermination (including RTI as it relates to identification ofstudents with learning disabilities); IDEA Discipline procedures;IDEA Transfer procedures; Compliance requirements for postsecondarytransition planning/ documentation and Indicator 13 checklistimplementation; TOPs training; Corrective Action Plan (CAP)development/implementation; High quality professional development(HQPD); State Performance Plan (SPP) and Annual Performance Report(APR)
  • Basic knowledge of:
    • Co-Teaching; Missouri Collaborative Work (CW); Missouri ModelDistricts (MMD); Schoolwide Positive Behavior Support (SW-PBS);Professional Learning Communities (PLC); MAP/MAP-A; Systems change;Adult learning concepts/strategies; Data analysis; Effectivemeeting management and processes/protocols; Coaching, presentation,consultation, and facilitation skills; Conflict resolution andproblem-solving processes; Leadership skills; Use of technology toenhance professional development; Development of High QualityProfessional Development; Excellent presentation skills infacilitating, coaching and mentoring

Anticipated Hiring Range

The anticipated hiring range for this position has been establishedas $52,223-$64,860 annually.

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but notlimited to, the individual’s particular combination of education,skills, and experience, as well as organizationalrequirements.
