Path To Success – New and Reapplying GTCC Students

1 Complete your NC Residency Determination.

  • Please visit www.ncresidency.org to complete the residency application process. When you finish the residency determination form, be sure to write down your assigned Residency Certification Number (RCN). You will need to enter your RCN on the GTCC admission application in step 2.

2 Complete GTCC's application for admission.

  • After obtaining your RCN in step 1, please complete the GTCC Application for Admission.
  • After you submit your application, monitor your status by visiting GTCC's Application Status website.

3 Apply for Financial Aid.

  • We recommend that all students apply for financial aid, which includes scholarships, Pell grants, and other grants. Visit the GTCC Financial Aid websiteto complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or get more information.

4 Submit official transcripts.

5 Satisfy placement test requirements.

  • If you’re not sure if you need a placement test or not, please review thewaiver requirements.
  • If you're still unsure, contact theAdmissions Office.
  • Review materials for both English and math can be found on our placement testing prep page.

6 Activate student account.

  • About 48 hours after completing your application in step 2, you will be able to activate your GTCC Titan Account.Please check your personal email to obtain your GTCC email address or contact records@gtcc.edu.

7 Complete Orientation.

  • Once you have activated your Student Account (Titan Account) in Step 6, complete the online Orientation. This is a short welcome and introduction to GTCC.

8 Sign up for First Advising.

  • In this session, you will learn how to register for classes, receive information about resources that are available at GTCC, and work with a Student Success Coach to develop your college plan.
  • First Advising options (choose one):
    • Walk-In: on a first-come, first-serve basis.
      • Hours of operation: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday (Note: To ensure we meet your service needs, we recommend arriving 30 to 45 minutes before closing time.)
      • Jamestown Campus:Room 3100, Medlin Campus Center,601 E. Main St.
      • Greensboro Campus: Room 132, CEC, 3505 E. Wendover Ave.
      • High Point Campus, Room 122, H1, 901 S. Main St.
  • First Advising appointment:
    • Schedule a 30-minute advising appointment.

9 Register for classes.

  • Once you have been advised, you can plan your schedule and register for available classes in Self-Service. Visit ourHow to Register for Classespage for more information.
  • If you are interested in registering for an online class, you will need to complete theOnline Success Seminar.

10 Pay for classes.

  • Tuition and fees must be paid by the payment due date listed on the Cashier's Office page. You can pay online through GTCC Self-Service or at the Cashier’s Office.

Path To Success – Visiting Student

1 Complete NC Residency Determination.

3Show prerequisites.

  • Visiting Students must show proof of prerequisites to register for a class. Examples may include:
    • Unofficial or official college transcripts showing a grade of C or better in prerequisite courses
    • SAT or ACT scores that meet the prerequisite
    • High school transcript with appropriate unweighted GPA
    • Complete placement test
  • Please email admissions@gtcc.edu to determine what type of proof you will need for specific courses.
  • Students will be required to present proof of prerequisite to a member of the Student Success Center at the time of registration.

4 Activate student account.

If your GTCC is declined when attempting to make an authorized purchase or cash withdrawal, contact the MNCC for assistance. The MNCC may be able to remove the Merchant Category Code (MCC) block and raise the retail or cash withdrawal limits, as necessary.
