Fleet Feet was founded in 1976 when Sally Edwards and her husband Tom Raynor opened the first Fleet Feet store in Sacramento, CA. As competitive runners, Sally and Tom were committed to providing customized outfitting, expert coaching, and community support to help people experience the life-changing benefits of running and fitness.
In just a few years, Fleet Feet Sacramento gained popularity as the leading specialty running retailer in Northern California. Sally and Tom were dedicated to hiring experienced runners to staff their store and offer personalized guidance to customers. Their expertise and passion for running fueled the rapid growth of the Fleet Feet brand.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Fleet Feet expanded across the country as an early pioneer of the franchise model in the specialty running industry. New locations opened in cities like Chicago, Raleigh, and Cincinnati led by franchise partners who shared Sally and Tom’s vision for community-focused retail with top-quality products and services.
Today, Fleet Feet continues to be the running shoe store leader with over 190 locally owned and operated locations in the United States. While we’ve grown significantly since 1976, our mission remains the same – to help people experience the transformational power of running and fitness by providing an exceptional customer experience, ongoing product and training expertise, and opportunities for community engagement.

Our free group runs welcome runners – and walkers! – of all paces and experience levels. We also offer paid specialty training programs led by certified coaches ranging from 5K and marathon programs to triathlon, cycling, and distance track programs.

- Gear:Our locations carry a wide assortment of running watches, fitness trackers, heart rate monitors, GPS units, activity trackers from Garmin, Coros, Polar, aftershokz, Fitbit, and more. We also offer headlamps, race belts, hydration vests, foam rollers, massage tools, socks, blister kits, and other gear.

We hand select products from brands we believe in and test extensively. We choose items that provide quality craftsmanship, innovative technology, performance enhancing features, and comfort – keeping in mind the needs of all types of runners and athletes including beginners, high mileage trainers, trail runners, race day competitors, walkers, fitness enthusiasts and weekend warriors!

Our college-educated staff have specialized training and experience fitting athletic footwear and apparel. Many of our employees are avid runners actively training for upcoming races who can offer personalized recommendations based on their own experience. You can feel confident in the guidance provided by our staff.
